Outstanding Young Artist Competition

(Winds, Strings, Percussion, Organ, Piano, and Voice)
Application Period: February 1 to February 28, 2022
Recital Date: Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 3:00 PM.

The Outstanding Young Artist competition is open to students ages 19 for instrumentalists and age 20 for vocalists. Students must attend school in the Lehigh Valley. The audition video should demonstrate a range of technical skills, rhythmic ability, and virtuosic tone, in works from standard classical repertoire. First Place winner receives $800; Second Place receives $400. A Rising Star (a student who has been studying only a few years) may be recognized as a promising young artist and awarded $75. First and Second Place winners must perform a 15- to 20-minute recital to receive their monetary award. The Rising Star must perform one piece of music at the recital to receive their monetary award.

*Decision to select a First Place, Second Place, and/or Rising Star winner, is at the discretion of the judges.*
*Please be advised: beginning with the 2023 competition, auditions will be limited to students in High School and younger.

February 1, 2022 Auditions open with electronic submission via the google form: OYA Application Here
February 28, 2022 Auditions close.
March 24, 2022 All participants, including winners are notified of the judges' decision, including winner(s).
April 1, 2022 Winner(s) submit final recital recordings (if the concert is virtual), with list of pieces to be performed, biography, and photo.
April 24, 2022 Recital will be live and streamed on the Friends of Music Facebook Page, at 3:00pm. Recital is free and open to the public.
